Dead Sea Mud Spa at your Own Home

30/03/2014 //  by Dima Al Mahsiri//  17 Comments

It has become a tradition here in Jordan to visit the Dead Sea in spring. Enjoy the warm weather at this time of the year, and cure our skin using the Dead Sea mud and minerals.

On the way to the Dead Sea!
On the way to the Dead Sea!

My husband and I visit the Dead Sea several times a year; we went to the Dead Sea two weeks ago. It was a lovely trip, and as always, I took a bucket of Dead Sea mud, which is found at the hotel’s shore to apply more when I go home.

It only takes an hour and a half to reach the Dead Sea by car. However, it takes us more than that since we like to stop from now and then to take some photos 🙂

The weather in March is fantastic, and the air is so clean and refreshing. My husband is a very good swimmer, but since the Dead Sea has a high concentration of salt, you will easily float! The high concentration of minerals give the Dead Sea its good reputation as one of the best resorts in the world. But you need to keep in mind that kids’ skin may get irritated.

It happened once that my little son’s face turned into deep red and became very dry when he played in the salty water of the Dead Sea. Therefore, we washed his face immediately with pure water, and applied shea butter to his face when we arrived home. Few days later, all was gone. And his face returned to normal. The Dead Sea salts work well for most of us, but you need to be sure that your skin is not sensitive to salty water.

One of the top reasons for visiting the Dead Sea is to apply Dead Sea mud to our skin. Dead Sea mud may look like any ordinary mud, but it is not like any other mud in the world. Its unique ingredients make it the perfect solution for many skin problems in addition to other health problems.

What is the Dead Sea mud made from?

The water has a high concentration of minerals and salts in a unique combination that is rich in potassium, calcium, sodium, bromine, magnesium, as well as others. Numerous thermo-mineral springs run under the Sea and along its shores. These supply the Sea with curative minerals that create a rich mineral black mud.

When I apply Dead Sea mud mask, I make sure that it stays on for as long as possible. If you have sensitive skin, try the mud on a small skin area, before applying to the whole body.

Let us now talk about the Dead Sea mud mask benefits in more details.

Dead Sea mud benefits

1. Exfoliate the skin: when you apply the mud to your skin, you feel its softness and while it dries, it clings to the dead skin cells and removes them as you wash the mud away. This reveals a fresh skin, with an even tone and brighter complexion, in addition to washing away all the impurities found deep inside the skin pores. You can feel that immediately after you wash your skin, it becomes soft and extremely clean.

2. Treating various skin problems such as acne, eczema. Therefore, there are several spas in the Dead Sea area for treating such skin diseases.

3. It tightens the skin, which improves the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Thanks to Calcium, when using the Dead Sea mud mask you notice an increase in the elasticity of your skin. This mineral increases skin’s flexibility, causing it to return to normal shape when stretched. It also improves the skin’s ability to form a protective barrier against damaging free radicals and over-exposure to UV radiation. This dramatically increases skin’s youthful appearance and helps it to combat dryness.

You may be wondering about how to get this mud? If you can come to Jordan that would be great. But for those who cannot come to the Dead Sea, you can still get these benefits by using Dead Sea products. Rivage is a well-known skin care line, which is made mainly from the Dead Sea mud and minerals. Its products are distributed all around the world, and you can easily purchase through online stores such as amazon.com and make your own Dead Sea spa! Get Body Natural Minerals Mud Mask.

Wow, what a fun trip, Dima! I love the photos and the details of your “journey”. Also, I didn’t know that the mud helped with elasticity because of the calcium. I get either exzcema or psoriasis every June for about 6 weeks on my hands. It’s painful. I will have to try Rivage products to see if it will help…though I wish I could get some mud 😉

Welcome to my blog Antionette !

Yes, you are right 🙂 Dead sea is a wonderful spa that combines fresh high-oxygen-levels air, plus great benefits from its water and mud. You can still try Dead sea products as a substitute, but if you ever have the chance to visit it, I am sure you will enjoy your trip !

    Hi Dima,

I tried dead sea mud twice now, but instead of clearing my face I saw bunch of white heads just setting on my nose and around it. I kept washing it but it did not come off. So what I’m doing wrong. I bought this product hoping it will help me but didn’t.

      Hi Eva,

Sorry to hear that, but unfortunately, I can’t tell what caused whiteheads unless I know more details about the product you used. You know, there are a tremendous number of dead sea products in the market.
