9 Essential Superfoods for Your Hair Health

10/04/2023 //  by Dima Al Mahsiri//  4 Comments

The condition of your hair is a mirror of your overall health. They are a vital part of your personality and everybody loves lustrous hair. However, we often forget the role of diet in the health of our hair. A deficiency of nutrients in the body can be directly related to thin, dry, falling, and unhealthy hair. No shampoo, conditioner, hair mask, or serum can affect hair better than a healthy diet. Thus, adding some superfoods to your diet for healthy hair is necessary.

Here is a list of a few superfoods, which have the necessary nutrients not only useful in enhancing the health of your hair but also your overall health. Especially, women should not miss including these superfoods in their diet.

Super Foods for Healthy Hair

spinach
  • Green Veggies: Asparagus is very healthy as it is packed with B-complex, folic acid, and vitamins that help the body absorb protein faster; protein is crucial for healthy hair growth. Other varieties of dark green veggies like broccoli, spinach, and kale are all significant sources of vitamins A and C. These vitamins basically produce sebum, which is very good for conditioning hair. These should be a part of your daily diet.
  • Oysters: Though oysters are slimy, and not the most delicious delicacy and you might be a little reluctant to indulge in them, they have good proportions of zinc, which enhance hair growth and maintain a healthy scalp. In addition, when oil retains on the scalp dandruff stays away.
  • Chicken: Everybody’s favorite dinner, chicken is not only delicious but also enhances the strength of the hair. Chicken is loaded with iron, protein, zinc, and Vitamin B.
  • Blueberries: A very rich source of antioxidants, they help you fight the free radicals that can cause the graying and brittle texture of the hair. Blueberries give you vibrant and youthful hair that bounces to shine.
  • Garbanzo Beans: These are rich in proteins, also known as chickpeas they are an excellent source of magnesium. They help you fight the gray of hair and also help in fighting breakage and hair loss.
  • Nuts: It is wise to keep a pack of nuts in your bags and make nuts easily accessible. Almonds, pecans, walnuts, cashew, and pistachios are superfoods packed with zinc and other minerals to keep your hair strong. Walnut has fatty acid omega-3 that gives shine and bounce to the hair.
  • Fish:  Fish such as sardines and salmon are the best solution to possess healthy locks. They have ample quantities of protein, iron omega-3 fatty acids, and Vitamin B-12 to keep your scalp dandruff free, and for healthy hair that shines, bounces, and glows.
  • Egg: Eggs have Biotin, an essential component of vitamin B and important to have a healthy scalp. They are high in iron, which carries oxygen to the hair follicles. The egg has many other health benefits as well.
  • Low Fat Greek Yogurt: Yogurts have vitamin D and B-5 that deliver calcium, which is very beneficial in hair growth.  Low-fat yogurt and cheese along with skim milk consist of casein and whey, which are high in protein and help fight dandruff.

The deteriorating environmental conditions can leave your hair lifeless and brittle. You can seek health advice online or offline to work on the health of your hair.

Excellent post, Dima! It is fascinating to learn the food preferences of different countries and cultures. I had to laugh about your comment about oysters not being a delicacy. In the US, they definitely are a delicacy! There are many “oyster bars” and famous restaurants where you go to order different types of oysters (there are many different varieties!), and they are quite expensive 😉 In New York, there is the Oyster Bar Restaurant in Grand Central Station. However, my favorite way to eat oysters is smoked or in a dish called Oysters Rockefeller, cooked and served on the shell with herbs and bread crumbs. Here’s the recipe:
    4 tablespoons unsalted butter
    2 garlic cloves, minced
1/3 cup bread crumbs, Panko preferred
    2 shallots, chopped
    2 cups chopped fresh spinach
    1/4 cup Pernod
    Salt and pepper, to taste
    Dash red pepper sauce
    2 tablespoons olive oil
    1/4 cup grated Parmesan
1 tablespoon chopped chervil or parsley
2 dozen oysters, on the half shell
    Rock salt
    Lemon wedges, for garnish

Thank you Allison for sharing your recipe.
Well, I am not a big fan of oysters, maybe because it is rare here in Jordan. We rarely find fresh sea food here, and I guess oysters should be fresh for preparing a nice delicious meal 🙂
Thanks again for stopping by 🙂

What you take in will be reflected on the outside. This means that eating healthy will result to a healthier body and that includes the hair and skin.
