10 Easy Ways to Use Coconut Oil in Your Beauty Routine

Published by

Weather changes affect us in many ways; it changes your mood, and it also affect your skin and body. So, it is important to look after your skin, hair, and body all year long, AND especially during winter.

One of my favorite natural beauty products is coconut oil, and when it comes to the uses of coconut oil in your beauty routines, there is always more to say about that.

Why you should use coconut oil in your beauty routine?

Butters, for example, shea butter, are great for moisturizing your skin, and it has always been one of my favorite products for curing eczema and dry flaky skin. Still, some people might find it too greasy and prefer light oils instead.

Coconut oil, on the other hand, contains fatty acids that penetrate your skin and hair better than other oils.

It is also an antibacterial and antifungal; that is why coconut oil is an excellent moisturizer that is used in many beauty products.

In this post, there is a video that shows some easy beauty uses for coconut oil for your skin and hair. Of course, there are plenty of other uses that I would love to hear about from you.

Just keep in mind that it is essential to use natural organic coconut oil like Skinny Coconut Oil, which I use and recommend. (Read the full review here).

Here is the video that summarizes these easy ways of using coconut oil in your beauty routine.

How to Use Coconut Oil in Your Beauty Routine

#1 Face Wash

Oil cleansing is based on the concept that “like dissolves like,” in other words; “oil dissolves oil.” That means; by using coconut oil you will remove excess oil from your skin, without making it dry. It will also provide your skin with a natural barrier that locks in moisture and helps protect your skin from environmental changes.

How to?

Pour some coconut oil into the palm of your hands, warm by rubbing your palms together and then apply to your dry face. Message the oil for 1-2 minutes.

Then soak a soft washcloth in hot water; this will help remove the oil better than cold water. Place it over your face to create steam against your skin to remove dirt and impurities from your skin, and wait till it cools. And then gently wipe your skin.

Note that coconut oil will remove the excess oil, makeup, sunscreen, and even waterproof mascara, so you don’t need to cleanse your skin before using the oil cleansing method.

#2 Bath Enhancer

Coconut oil is an excellent moisturizer for your whole body, add some when bathing, and soak your body in. This will leave your skin soft and smooth. You can add your favorite essential oil, too.

#3 Body Moisturizer

If you don’t have time to enjoy a coconut oil enhanced bath, apply it to your wet skin just after you finish bathing. This will ensure you get the most of it.

#4 Frizz Tamer

Frizzy hair could be so annoying especially when you have your hair done for an occasion, or just anytime. To help avoid fizziness, add a few drops to your palms, and work it through your hair strands.

Make sure you use just a few drops to avoid ending up with oily hair.

Another option that I love to use is argan oil. It leaves your hair frizz-free with no oily look.

#5 Eye Makeup Remover

Waterproof makeup, and especially mascaras, could be hard to remove. You may use commercial makeup removers, but why use chemicals over your delicate skin when you can easily remove makeup and provide nutrients to your skin both at the same time?

Coconut oil is a great oil for doing a dual job. That is why many use coconut oil in beauty routines. Not only it removes eye makeup, but also, supplies your lashes with nutrients, making them look bolder and thicker. And if you have sensitive skin, your skin will love this gentle eye makeup remover.

How to?

Put a few drops of coconut oil on a cotton swab, gently press onto your eyes for 30 seconds, and then wipe it off .

#6 Body Scrub

Exfoliating your skin once or twice a week not only helps get rid of the dry, flaky skin but also promotes new skin cells to form.

How to?

Mix equal parts of coconut oil and brown sugar. Sugar contains glycolic acid, which works as a physical and chemical exfoliator.

Gently scrub your skin in a circular motion, rinse with water, pat dry and apply your favorite moisturizer.

#7 Hair Mask

As you wash, brush, and color your hair, you make it more prone to lose protein, which can damage it over time.

And since there are so many oils to use for oiling your hair, it might be difficult to choose one.

Nevertheless, coconut oil is one of the best oils for your hair; it has medium-chain fatty acid called Lauric acid, which penetrates the hair more easily than other oils do. This reduces the protein loss and keeps your hair looking healthy.

Oiling your hair using coconut oil regularly could make it grow longer, so make sure you include this in your hair routine.

How to?

You can use coconut oil alone, or mixed with other oils like castor oil. Warm the oil, and apply to your hair starting from the roots and working all the way down to the ends.

Leave on your hair for 2 hours or more, then rinse using a mild shampoo.

When you oil your hair, you probably won’t need a conditioner afterward, because the oil will leave your hair nourished, manageable, and shiny.

#8 Lip Balm

Your lips are always exposed to environmental changes, and that includes dry and cold weather. This could dry your lips and leave them chapped.

The solution is simple; coat your lips with oil to protect your lips from losing moisture.

How to?

Apply a small amount of coconut oil when needed.

Hint: Mix coconut oil with a cream or powder highlighter and apply to your lips.

#9 Cuticle Treatment

Your hands do most of the hard work, whether you are doing the dishes, cleaning, or taking a bath; you are exposing your hands and your nails to all sorts of chemicals.

Not taking care of them will cause them to dry, so make sure to wear gloves for chores.

How to?

Apply a few drops of coconut oil to your hands and rub them, don’t forget your nails and the skin around them.

#10 Eye Cream

Your skin around your eyes could tell a lot about your health.

The dehydrated skin could form dark circles around your eyes, so make it a habit to eat well-balanced food and drink water, to get the natural healthy-looking skin you deserve.

To brighten the area around your eyes, apply coconut oil every night after cleansing your skin.

How to?

Use your ring finger to apply coconut oil around your eyes. The reason why all specialists recommend using your ring fingers is that it applies the least pressure to your delicate eye area, so you don’t rub it or irritate it.

Using coconut oil in your daily beauty routine is so beneficial. Make sure to buy organic coconut oil for best results.
