Is Dr Song Medical Lactic Acid Gel Peel Good for Your Skin?

07/12/2014 //  by Dima Al Mahsiri//  5 Comments

Dr Song Medical Lactic Acid Gel Peel 50%

Sometimes it is hard to choose a skin care product for specific skin needs. I myself used to spend an hour or so going back and forth trying to check out as many labels as I can, making sure that I pick the best for my skin. Another option for me was shopping online; reading reviews of various products, searching for a product that is natural, with a reasonable price and from a trust worthy brand.

One thing that I learnt is that clean skin is the key for healthy skin. Cleansing your skin prevents pores from clogging, thus no acne will form. Exfoliation also removes dead skin, which will stimulate the production of collagen, in addition to reducing the appearance of dark spots.

Earlier this year, I used vitamin C serum, which was great for providing my skin with anti-oxidants needed for healthy youthful looking skin. Then I started using lactic acid (15%) which was great for gently exfoliating my skin.

If you are not sure what lactic acid is, you can read this post for more details on lactic acid definition and benefits.

A month ago, I received Lactic Acid Gel Peel (50%) from Dr Song Medical. I was very excited since I already used a 15% lactic acid, which did work for me!Dr Song Medical Lactic Acid Gel Peel 50%

Dr. Song Medicals is a global, integrated pharmaceutical and medical cosmetic company that specializes in research and manufacturing of products for licensed professionals and institutes in over 30 different countries.

In addition to lactic acid, this peel contains purified water, sodium carboxylmethylcellulose, propylene glycol. The company claims that it can be used for age spots, freckles, sunspots, skin lightening, hyper pigmentation, wrinkles, and Fine Lines.

How to Use Dr Song Medical Lactic Acid Gel Peel?

Since I used lactic acid peels before, using this one was easier for me. I cleaned my face with a mild cleanser and applied a thin layer of this peel using a cotton pad.  This peel has a gel consistency, and you only need a little bit to cover your whole face. The instructions that I received via email(also available on their site here) made me worried that my skin may turn into deep red, get irritated or something, thankfully, it did not. My skin did turn red and caused my skin to sting during the two minutes of application, but nothing serious, as it lasted for only an hour after I washed my face with cool water (DON’T scrub your face when washing).  Of course, you should use it with caution, and follow the instructions strictly.

The second time I used it was 10 days after the first peel. I left it on my face for 2 minutes then rinsed it with cool water. My face stung, and turned a little bit red, but all lasted for less than an hour. I applied green tea cream to cool down the burning sensation.

To avoid irritation, you should test this peel on a small portion of your skin a day prior exfoliating. Make sure to avoid sun light few days after peeling your skin since your skin will be sensitive.

Tip: Skin heal in a 1-2 weeks period, so you are not going to see results immediately after peeling, since your skin will take time to regenerate new skin cells.

How was my Skin Post Peel?

A little bit irritated for an approximately an hour. I used Dr Song peel at night to give my skin time to cool down and heal. I also used a moisturizer containing hyaluronic acid. My skin was very soft (imagine all the dirt and dead skin removed). My face also became more luminous. One thing that surprised me (and if you are a regular reader to my blog and know that, I am very picky) it DID lightened my age spots, WAAW!

Dr Song Medical Lactic Acid Gel Peel 50%

This lactic acid peel did the job that is equivalent to about 1 month (4 sessions) of 15% lactic acid peel! But wait, before you jump to Amazon to buy this peel, you should remember that I am familiar with peels, and I have been using them for 2 months now. Patience is a key master to achieving your goals, so start with lower concentration of lactic acid. You can then purchase Dr Song 50% Lactic Acid Gel Peel from Amazon for $14.99. Remember that you only need few drops at a time, so this will last for a long time for sure.

I am satisfied with what I achieved, and I strongly recommend this cheap, yet powerful peel.

You are a tough cookie, Dima, so if you like this peel, it must be a really, really good one!! I’m so impressed that it really lightened your hyperpigmentation. You definitely got my attention with that!! I will put this product on my “to try” list. It sounds really wonderful, and the price is definitely a good one. You mentioned the importance of starting with a lower % lactic acid. Which 15% peel were you using when you first started?

      It does work, Allison!
I noticed that new spots fades faster than old ones, but the change was obvious:)
Just make sure to start with 1 minute for the first time, I know that you have sensitive skin, so it’s better that way. I started with [re]fresh Fruit Acid 15% Peel, I guess you read that review, here is the link once again:

Do you need to quit using retinol before doing a peel?

There is no research that peels make retinol less active when used in the same beauty routine. If your skin can tolerate using both at the same time, you could continue using retinol as you normally do. If your skin gets irritated, use retinol less often. You can find more information here.
