There are so many issues that could affect your hair health; so I decided to gather all those hair care tips and tricks in one place to help you find an easy and simple solution.

In this post, I will show you how simple and easy hair care routine could be. If you would like to transfer your hair from frizzy, dry and lifeless, to shiny, fuller and stronger hair, keep on reading!

Your hair is a sign of beauty, and to help it look healthy and grow fast, you need to know what is good AND what is bad for your hair.

There are so many factors that could affect your hair, to name few:

  • Medication
  • Stress and anxiety
  • Anemia or unhealthy diet
  • Pregnancy
  • Aging
  • Hormonal changes

And though some of these factors may seem out of your control, good care of your hair could solve most of these hair problems.

Hair Care Tips Every Woman Should Know

1. Help your Hair Grow from Deep Within

Whatever you do to help grow your hair, feeding your hair from deep within is the best way to grow long healthy hair.

There are plenty of nutrients that your hair needs including the following:

  • Protein

Hair is mainly made of protein, so it is important that you get enough protein.

  • Iron

Your hair needs oxygen, and iron helps red blood cells carry that oxygen to your hair. Good sources of iron include eggs, red meat, spinach, and lentils.

  • Vitamin A

It helps your body produce sebum (oil) that moisturizes your scalp and helps keep your hair stay healthy and shiny. Carrots, spinach, milk, eggs, and kale are good sources of vitamin A.

  • B Vitamins (including Biotin)

There are studies that link biotin deficiency to hair loss, so it is important to consume foods that are rich in biotin like whole grains, almonds, meat, fish, and dark, leafy greens.

  • Vitamin C

Vitamin C is known for fighting free radicals that cause your body to age fast. It also helps create collagen that is essential for hair growth.

Vitamin C helps your body to absorb iron, which is necessary for good hair health. Make sure you include citrus fruits and strawberry in your diet.

2.Washing and Conditioning your Hair

How often you should wash your hair depends on your hair type and the surrounding environment.

If you have oily hair, you may wash it every other day, if your hair is dry; wash it fewer times (2-3 times would be fine).

The number of times you need to wash your hair also depends on the season; hair tends to become oily more often in summer than in winter.

The bottom line is that you don’t have to wash it every day. Actually, you should not!

Hot Shower, Yes or No?

Avoid hot water when taking a shower; hot water will strip off oils from your hair (and skin) leaving your hair more prone to frizz.

Then, what should you do?

Keep it warm, and give a final cool rinse to seal your hair cuticles and minimize frizz.

Switch to Natural homemade shampoos; this is a great list of natural DIY shampoos that you could easily make at home and customize for your own hair needs.

Remember that you should stay away from parabens, the famous preservatives that are now known to cause so many health issues. Triclosan, synthetic colors, formaldehyde, sodium lauryl sulfate, and sodium Laureth sulfates are also bad for your hair.

3. Brush your Hair BEFORE Washing

Wet hair is weak and more prone to breakage. Keeping this in mind, always make sure to brush your hair before you take a shower.

If you have to comb your hair right after washing, use a wide-toothed comb to minimize damage. Start from the middle of your hair, and be gentle while detangling your hair. Then comb from the roots to the ends of your hair.

Also, pay attention to the type of hair brush you use. A good brush stimulates your scalp and redistributes sebum, thus making your hair shiny and stronger, while a bad one will cause breakage and harm your strands.

You could choose one of three types of hair brushes; plastic, nylon, and boar. Read more about how to choose and look after your hairbrush.

Condition like a pro

When applying a conditioner, towel dry your hair to help your hair absorb the conditioner and receive the moisture it needs. Also, skip conditioning the roots and focus on the ends of your hair.

Conditioning does mean that you have to purchase a conditioner; you can use natural oils, like coconut and argan oil for moisturizing your hair and eliminating frizz.

4. Avoid Excessive Heat

Excessive blow drying will damage your hair. Styling tools will cause harm to your scalp and hair.

Try letting your hair to air dry for 15 minutes before styling to minimize heat exposure.

5. Natural vs. Artificial Hair Dye

Even though most people know what kind of harsh chemicals are used in most artificial dyes, they still color their hair using dyes that could do more harm than good.

Labels like natural, chemical free, does not guarantee that these products are good for your hair. So make sure you read the labels.

Make sure you avoid the following ingredients:

  • Ammonia
  • Peroxide
  • Para-phenylenediamines (PPDs)
  • Lead
  • Toluene
  • Resorcinol
  • Coal tar

Henna could be a good alternative to artificial dyes. I have been using henna for coloring my hair for more than 20 years now.

You can add chamomile for a shiny blond hint, or black tea for deep brown, depending on the final result you wish.

Here is a video of how you could properly henna your hair.

How to Naturally Grow Your Hair Faster

If you follow the hair care routine mentioned before in this post, your hair will be as healthy and shiny as it should be. Still, there are other things you could do to speed up the process and grow your hair faster.

But first, how fast does your hair grow each month?

According to the American Academy of Dermatology, your hair grows about 1/2 inch (1.25 cm) on average. As you age, growth speed may decrease; also your overall health will control how fast your hair grows.

1. Hair supplements:

If you suffer from vitamin deficiency, there are so many vitamin supplements that could help provide your body with what it needs.

I have already tried some of these available in the market, but my favorite is ZenWise Labs Hair Growth Vitamins+ DHT Blocker. The good thing about this supplement is that it contains biotin in addition to the whole set of vitamins and minerals. Buy this supplement online.

2. Home Remedies for Hair Growth

1. Turmeric Hair Mask

Turmeric is rich in iron, B vitamins and zinc; it is also an anti-inflammatory food that helps cure hair conditions such as dandruff and itchy scalp.

Ingredients

Directions

  1. Warm olive oil and add a pinch of turmeric powder.
  2. Apply to your scalp, massage your scalp, and leave it on for 15-20 minutes.
  3. Shampoo your hair as usual.

2. Green tea rinse for hair growth

Green tea stimulates your hair follicles and helps prevent scalp problems like dandruff. It is also rich in anti-oxidants that could boost hair growth. According to a 2007 study by Korean scientists at the Seoul National University College of Medicine, green tea stimulates your hair follicles and helps your hair grow faster.

Ingredients

  • Warm (not hot), freshly brewed green tea

Directions

  1. Wash your hair as normal.
  2. Message the green tea into your scalp.
  3. Leave it on for an hour, and then rinse it out with cool water.
  4. Repeat 2 to 3 times a week for a couple of months.

3. Proteins for hair growth

Proteins are essential for your hair to grow and stay protected from environmental damage such as pollution and excessive heat.

You can oil your hair using warm coconut oil to restore moisture to your hair strands and protect it when using heat for styling.

If you prefer to use a protein treatment, here is a good option available online from Aphogee.

Argan oil is also a great natural choice for moisturizing your hair. It is non-greasy oil, and it leaves your hair shiny and easy to manage without weighing it down.

To use argan oil for oiling your hair, and you can also use a few drops, warm in your hands and go through your hair as a leave-in treatment. Make sure you pick organic, cold pressed argan oil.

Other oils that you can use include olive oil, jojoba oil, and the famous hair growth oil; castor oil.

Make sure to massage your scalp to stimulate the blood circulation.

Using an essential oil like tea tree oil, pumpkin seed, peppermint oil, and rosemary oil will benefit hair growth.

To use these oils without causing harm to your scalp, you should dilute the essential oil in the carrier oil; some of the best choices are coconut oil and castor oil (by adding a few drops of the essential oil to an ounce of the carrier oil).

4. Egg hair mask for hair growth

Egg masks are one of the common hair treatments for growing healthy hair fast. Eggs are rich in protein and biotin, so they have always been used for moisturizing and strengthening hair.

If you have an egg allergy, don’t use this mask

Ingredients

  • 2 eggs
  • 1 tablespoon castor oil

Directions

  1. In a bowl, beat the eggs well.
  2. Add castor oil and mix well.
  3. Apply the mixture on to your scalp and hair and let it stay for about half an hour.
  4. Rinse your hair with your usual shampoo and cold water, and refrain from using a conditioner.

5. Amla Powder for hair growth

Amla, the Indian gooseberry, is supercharged with vitamin C that helps cure premature hair greying, it stimulates hair growth due to being rich in iron, treats dry scalp, dandruff, and enhances the natural color of your hair when mixed with henna.

Watch this video to learn how to use amla for enhancing your hair growth.

Shop amla powder online.

6. Shea butter for hair growth

As mentioned before, proteins are essential for preventing hair breakage. And shea butter is no exception; it has a high fatty acid content that penetrates the hair and protects it from breakage. It also adds shine and reduces frizz.

Since shea butter has anti-inflammatory properties, it soothes the scalp irritations.

Before you use shea butter in a hair mask, you should know that shea butter could weigh down thin hair; on the other hand, if your skin is prone to acne, shea butter may cause breakouts on your forehead, shoulders, and back.

To avoid breakouts, protect your forehead by rapping your hair and using a shower cap, and wash your hair after using a shea butter hair mask on the sink to prevent excess oils from reaching to your shoulder and back.

Hair Care Routine for Wavy, Curly hair, and Dry Frizzy Hair

Wavy and curly hair both looks beautiful and many consider them as a blessing, especially the bouncy hair strands that give volume to your hair.

If you have curly or wavy hair, you know how difficult to keep those strands under control.

In humid weather, this type of hair tends to frizz, dry, and become unruly.

To make your frizzy hair more manageable, you need to keep it moisturized. And what could be better than natural remedies using ingredients from your kitchen cabinet?

Check out these hair mask recipes for curly hair.

Hair Care Routine for Straight Hair

If you have straight hair, you know how easy it is to manage your hair. Still, it could get greasy fast, and that will make your hair look flat and weigh it down.

Being greasy does not mean that you have to wash your hair every day; neither has it meant that you have to use shampoo for oily hair. Washing your hair too often will force the follicles to produce more oil, and this will make your hair become oily fast, same applies to use shampoos designed for oily hair; they will strip off all the oils from your hair.

Make sure you wash your hair every other day and allow it to produce natural oils to protect your strands.

When conditioning your hair, never apply a conditioner to your scalp, to avoid ending up with greasy hair.

Hair Care Routine for Dandruff

Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons of baking soda
  • Apple cider vinegar
  • Water

Directions

  1. Mix baking soda and water to form a paste
  2. Rub through your hair and let sit for a minute
  3. Wash it off your hair using warm water
  4. Mix 1 tablespoon of apple cider vinegar and a glass of water, and use as a final rinse.

There is no way to grow your hair faster overnight; it does take time. So you have to be patient and stick to your hair care routine for a while to see visible results.

A balanced diet, using sulfate-free shampoos and natural conditioners are the best techniques for looking after your hair.

Since vitamin deficiency and scalp problems are responsible for hair loss, you may need to seek advice from your doctor. So, if these hair care tips did not work for you, your doctor should be the one who gives you professional advice and the best solutions for your hair problems.
