Are makeup products some of the most important things to you? If the answer is yes, then you probably know how to clean the brushes. However, many people forget to do so, or they clean them with toxic products that can harm the skin. Makeup brushes do a lot of work, and they tend to get dirty easily.

In this article, we are going to show how you can clean your makeup brushes without hassle. If you want more options on how to take care of your brushes, you can read a helpful guide to how to clean your makeup brushes using natural ingredients; you will find many tips and tricks for cleaning your brushes with cheap and natural solutions.

Why should you Clean Makeup Brushes Regularly?

You might be wondering why it is so important to clean those brushes if you have only used them for two or three makeup sessions. Well, there are a lot of reasons to do it.

First, cleaning them offers you a clearer color application. Dirty brushes can’t do that because they still have residual colors, powder, and dust in them.

Second, you should also clean makeup brushes to prevent acne. If you already have this skin issue, it is even more important to clean these products regularly. Our skin is sensitive, and when the brush has been collecting oil, dust, and powder, it will start to clog the pores leading to acne.

Cleaning your brushes is also great for your budget. When they are cleaned regularly, you will save up money since you won’t have to purchase new brushes because the older ones got easily ruined.

Experts recommend for makeup artists and heavy makeup users to clean their brushes after each use as the residual makeup, oil, and dirt tend to build up after just one day of use. For average users, experts recommend using a cleanser on your makeup products once a week, and shampoo once a month.

How to Clean Makeup Brushes Easily?

The procedure is quite simple, as you probably expected.

  1. Dip each brush into hot running water. Then, pour water and baby shampoo or shampoo for dry hair into a bowl or a large glass. These types of shampoo are great for sensitive skin so they won’t dry the hair of the brush.
  2. Rub each one of the brushes separately. This ensures you removed all the dirt, powder, oil, and other things that were stuck onto your brush. Rub all of them for a few minutes to make sure they are clean.
  3. Clean them in running water. Make sure that there is no residue left on the brushes. If they aren’t clean yet, you can repeat the process. Don’t worry; it won’t affect the quality of the products.
  4. After you completed the whole process, make sure to squeeze all of the water out of each brush and lay them on a piece of cloth or paper towel. It is best to have a special, small towel for your brushes. Let them dry for a while, and then they are as good as new.

Tips and tricks for Clean Makeup Brushes

If you do not have the time to go through the whole process with each brush, then there are some tips and tricks that can help you save time and still get squeaky clean brushes.

Tip #1

You can buy a special solution which is more effective than tap water and soap or shampoo. Most of the brush cleaning solutions also contain vitamins and special oils that protect the hair from the brush.

Tip #2

If you have run out of special cleanser, pour a few drops of Dawn dishwashing soap into a cup with warm water and dip in the brushes. Just swish around, and they are clean. Dawn soap is so effective because it was specially designed to remove tough oils.

Tip #3

Another thing that can save you a lot of time is a brush washing mat. Instead of rubbing each brush for a few minutes, you can rub two or three brushes on the washing mat for a few seconds. The special texture of the mat ensures that all of the residues is removed in no time.

Tip #4

Spray your brushes with anti-bacterial solution combined with your favorite body spray. This will ensure that the brushes don’t have bacteria build-up on them and they will also smell amazing. Remember to do so when you put them on the towel to dry. If you need to use the brushes sooner, you can use a blow-dryer when they are almost dry.

These are some tips and tricks on how to clean and take care of your makeup brushes. It is important to clean them regularly to avoid persistent skin problems like acne. Also, you will save some money because you won’t have to buy new brushes very often.
