Why Honey Should Be Your Go-to Skincare Ingredient

18/02/2020 //  by Dima Al Mahsiri//  Leave a Comment

Honey is very well known for all of its benefits for the skin. It is the main component for many skincare products, including moisturizers, cleansers, lip balms, and the list goes on. In this article, you are going to see just how amazing this natural ingredient is!

Honey

Here is why you should absolutely choose honey for skincare:

Acne Treatment

Many spot treatment products and brands are aware of the honey benefits for the skin. That is exactly why this ingredient is also a great at-home substitute for industrial creams. Honey as a natural remedy contains plenty of anti-inflammatory properties. This makes it good for unifying the skin tone, reducing redness, and clearing out spots.

Also, skincare with honey helps reduce bacteria that are the cause of acne.

So it’s an all-inclusive treatment. It gets rid of uneven skin tone, helps you avoid redness for the ones who suffer during winter. It also controls the oil in your skin, while lowering the chance of getting those acne-causing bacteria. How amazing is that!

So you can simply apply honey directly on the spots you want to treat on your face. Wait for around 10 minutes and rinse off.

Note: It is important to get raw honey or Buckwheat honey. Because regular jar-honey is usually filled with excess sugar, which makes it less good for the skin compared to natural honey.

Exfoliant

Why should you opt for honey for skincare, instead of store-bought buckets of harsh exfoliants?

Sure, those kinds of products give an instant feel of smoothness on the skin.

However, one of the honey benefits on the skin is that you can use it as an excellent exfoliator as well.

Raw honey naturally turns into small particles after a while. So you can use those soft crystals of honey for skin care, or as an additional step in your shower or bath routine!

You can also use solid honey in your morning skincare routine, as many celebrities are already doing.

So the way to do it is as follows: Soften the honey with a little amount of water, and then rub it in your palms to warm it up. Then you can safely apply this mixture onto your face, gently scrub, and leave on for a few minutes before washing it off.

There you go, the softest skin you will ever have, with a simple natural component.

Moisturizer

Honey has a sugary sticky consistency; this is why it’s considered a good moisturizing product. It is rich in components that help to restore the water retention in the skin. Keeping your face well moisturized when you use honey for skin care.

It especially works well when it is combined with other bee products such as royal jelly or pollen. Those ingredients are effective when it comes to preventing skin aging symptoms.

Another one of the great benefits of honey for the skin is that it leaves a healthy shine effect. It is the secret behind a fantastic glowing skin.

So the way to benefit from honey in skincare is also simple:

Simply apply the liquid directly onto your face (or skin, depending on areas that you feel are dry). Leave on for a good 20 minutes, it might become very sticky but it easily washes out. After you feel like your skin is more moisturized, you can wash it off with lukewarm water.

Lip Care

We have mentioned that honey is a great moisturizer for your skin, as well as your face. Well, it only makes sense that it also works for moisturizing the lips!

During winter, dehydrated lips become dry and chapped. It feels very uncomfortable and bothersome and only a few lip balms can do the job. But to what extent are they going to repair the skin tissue on the lips?

Well, a honey lip mask is definitely going to do a better job at keeping the moisture locked in, leaving your lips soft and well-nourished. The directions go the same for lips as well: apply raw honey directly onto your lips, leave it on for a few minutes and then wash it off. Doing skin care with honey is a simple and effective substitute for the usual creams and lotions.

Scar Treatment

As mentioned before, the most remarkable honey benefits for the skin come from the antioxidants. So if you have a stubborn scar or a long time stretch mark maybe, honey can help bring the skin tone and texture into normal.

Some people recommend it for anti-aging as well. Maybe that’s what keeps Jennifer Lopez looking so young! It seems like it has the qualifications to be the youth nectar we were looking for.

The way to go about this is to apply raw honey in a massaging circular motion onto the area you wish to heal, and then rinse it off after a few minutes. This also works for tiny blemishes on the skin, after it is nourished thanks to honey, you can get back a spotless glowing skin.

The key to skincare with honey is to go for raw honey, it can be combined with other natural ingredients for a stronger effect on your skin. Experts recommend Buckwheat honey as it is considered the richest in nutritional elements, antioxidants, and anti-inflammatory properties.

Many branded products use raw honey, for many other reasons than the ones mentioned above. Other benefits of honey are concerning hair, it can restore and repair damaged dry hair. Raw honey can simply be combined with your conditioner, or you can choose to implement it differently in your hair care routine.

Please keep in mind your allergies when you think about using any ingredient on your skin, consult with your doctor for further advice on how to keep your skin healthy-looking.
