How To Add An Anti-Aging Regimen To Your Daily Routine?

03/01/2014 //  by Dima Al Mahsiri//  10 Comments

Article by Amanda Austin

Anti-aging skin care techniques don’t begin and end with your nightly beauty routine. Although cleaning, moisturizing and exfoliating are all important ways to keep your skin looking younger, there are other surprising secrets to youthful skin. In her book The Beauty of Food, Hanan talks about standout foods for anti-Aging beauty enhancement.

Here are our top five favorite anti-aging skin care tips.

Moisturize

One of the best-kept secrets to keeping your skin look young and vibrant is to moisturizer. This simple tip can take years off your skin – aging skin loses collagen, which leads to wrinkled, sagging and dull skin. Even drugstore moisturizers, especially those containing shea butter or glycerin, can help plump up fine lines and wrinkles and give your skin a lovely glow. However, for the greatest benefit, opt for a moisturizer with antioxidants and retinol. There are hundreds of products on the market, so shop around to find a daily lotion or night cream that fits your skin care needs.

Use protection

Sun protection, that is – It’s no surprise that UVA and UVB rays cause a multitude of problems with your skin, no matter what age you are. However, as you age, effects of the sun become more prominent. Harmful sun rays can cause age spots, dry skin, wrinkles and a dull, yellowish cast to your skin. It’s never too late to start using sunscreen to protect your skin, and sunscreen combined with antioxidants like Vitamin E and Vitamin C can make your skin appear younger.  Recent advances in sunscreen technology, including Helioplex (developed by Neutrogena) and ecamsule (developed by L’Oreal), are providing high levels of long-lasting protection and anti-aging lotion benefits.

Drink from a cup, not a bottle or straw

Although experts agree that drinking water is a great idea to keep your skin (and body) healthy, the way you drink it can make a huge difference in the appearance of your skin. Imagine drinking out of a straw or bottle; Notice your lips puckering and the skin on your face pulling taught? Some believe this can cause laugh lines and wrinkles on your skin. Choose a bottle that allows you to squirt water in your mouth instead of sipping, like this refillable filtered water bottle from Bobble.

Eat a healthy diet with “smart fats”

You are what you eat, at least, when it comes to skin care.  Foods with omega-3s and monosaturated fat can regenerate skin, improve the texture and tone of your skin. Look for types of fish, like salmon, halibut, and mackerel, avocado, and olive oils. Foods with an antioxidant boost, such as berries, broccoli, leafy greens, and tomatoes, can help your skin tone, too, by combating free radicals that cause wrinkles and sunspots.

 Pay attention to your eyes

Eyes are the windows of the soul – and also, the area that first shows signs of aging. The skin around your face is thinner, dryer and more sensitive than other areas of your skin. Choose an eye cream that can handle your eye “problem”, which can include dark circles, Crow’s feet, puffy eyes and baggy eyes.

Wrinkles, dark spots, blemishes and fine lines are some of the most common, unpleasant and alarming signs of aging. You will find a wide variety of cosmetic products in the market for anti aging solutions. While they might claim to produce quick results, such results might not be for long term and can come at the cost of some severe side effects owing to the presence of a plethora of harmful chemicals in these products.

      You are right, Emily!
That is why we should do our best to pick natural products, even if it takes more time, because our health should always come first.

I agree that it’s important to use sun protection. I feel like that’s one of the single most important things you can do to protect your skin from aging. I say this because the sun seems to have a way of wrinkling the skin.

    Hey Dima,

    Indeed a nice post!!

I drink 4-6 large glasses of water on a daily basis. I love water and sometimes I will add a slice of lemon or lime or maybe a flavour packet, which are now plentiful on the market. Drinking a lot of water has also contributed to the youthful appearance of my skin.

Thanks a lot for sharing 🙂
