Simple Homemade Beauty Tips and Recipes

Published by

Since I started my blog, I have been testing and trying out lots of remedies and natural products. Whether it is a facial cream, a scrub, or a hair mask, I have always enjoyed the fact that I am using all natural skin and hair products. Since then, I have developed a healthy, yet simple beauty routine. Today, I would love to share some of these simple effective beauty tips that every woman should know and follow a naturally beautiful skin.

What I like most about homemade beauty remedies is that they are always fun and easy to make. You can enjoy trying them out with your friends or alone. They cannot be wrong, and you do not need to worry about side effects, and most of all they are affordable, especially that most of those ingredients could be found in your kitchen!

#1 Exfoliation:

There is no need to spend $$$ on face and body scrubs while you can get the desired results in a much cheaper and safer way.

There are plenty of face and body scrub recipes that you can choose from; depending on your skin type and needs, but the good news is that you adjust these recipes, modify, and change the ingredients according to what your skin really needs.

For example, some body-scrubs include essential oils. You should always skip such products if your skin is too sensitive. If you suffer from acne, you can add a pinch of turmeric to your face or body scrub. Turmeric is known for its anti-inflammatory properties, it is also a great natural exfoliator that you can safely use for both your face and body.

Here are some scrub recipes that you could make at home…

Turmeric and Yoghurt Scrub

Mix equal portions of plain yoghurt and turmeric powder, apply onto your face, and or body, then leave for about 20 minutes, or till it dries. after that, scrub your skin in a circular motion to remove all dead skin and dirt.

To remove the yellowish tone due to using turmeric, use a clean cloth damped in milk, scrub in a gentle circular motion. Finally, wash your face with water, pat dry, and apply your favourite moisturizer.

Sugar and Olive Oil Scrub

Another recipe that I like to use for exfoliating my body is the famous olive oil and sugar scrub. Sugar is much better than salt for exfoliating your skin as salt may dehydrate or irritate your skin. Olive oil, on the other hand, will moisturize your skin, so it becomes soft and clean. Your skin will absorb the olive oil faster than you think.

My Favorite Green Tea Exfoliation Recipe

This is my favourite recipe that I have been using for years. It is my number one solution for dry and flaky skin in winter, though I like to use it during the whole year; especially when I have a special occasion. This face scrub removes all dead skin, excess oil, and leaves my skin smooth and glowy, so I prefer using it before applying my makeup. Click here for more on this recipe.

Using Exfoliation to get Pink Lips

Dry lips would look dull and flaky. Try one of these easy scrubs for soft and pink lips. Make sure to use all natural moisturizers like coconut oil, shea butter or argan oil as night or day treatments.

Exfoliate or Cleansing, which should be done first?

Either way would do great for your skin, but I like to exfoliate first, though you won’t need to exfoliate every day. Exfoliating will remove all dead skin from the surface of your skin, allowing your cleanser to deep cleanses your skin efficiently.

#2 Cleanse Your Skin

Cleansing your skin regularly will help to keep acne, white and blackheads at bay. Some like to use lotions, others soap, or oils depending on your skin type and needs.

There are plenty of choices out there, just make sure that you cleanse your skin 1-2 times a day.

Make Your Own Facial Cleanser

Using one of the recipes that I received from Simply Earth, you can make your own facial cleanser using the following ingredients:

  • 1 cup filtered or boiled water
  • 1/4 cup liquid castile soap
  • 5 teaspoons Camellia Seed oil
  • 10 drops Geranium essential oil
  • 2 drops Lemongrass essential oil
  • 2 tablespoons raw honey

Mix all ingredients by gently stirring, then put the mixture into a foaming soap dispenser. When needed, use 1-2 pumps once or twice daily.

Using Oils for Cleansing Your Skin

The concept of using oils to cleanse your skin has been widely used lately, though it has been for ages in the Korean beauty routine. There are a variety of oils that you can use, I like to use coconut oil, once you warm the oil and apply it to your skin, it will dissolve all the oils along with the impurities stuck in your pores. Not only that but also will leave your skin smooth and glowing.

The Use of a Natural Cleanser

There are so many cleansers on the market nowadays that makes choosing one a challenge. You will need to read and gather basic knowledge about what is good and what is bad for your skin, reading the labels is also important when picking one.

Some of the natural cleansers that I reviewed and recommend are Ao Skincare Prepare Cleanser, NAYELLE Glacial Cleanser, and Hypnotic Skinssentials ROSE AND CHAMOMILE MILK.

#3 Moisturize Your Skin

Moisturizing your skin could be a simple task, but not doing it regularly will leave your skin dry and flaky, or oily and shiny that your foundation will melt off your face in hot weather.

When you cleanse your skin, wash with water and pat dry; never rub your face, and make sure that your skin is a little bit damped before applying your moisturizer.

If you prefer using oils for moisturizing your skin, use small quantities at a time to avoid ending up with oily skin.

I have written a full guide on how to choose the right moisturizer for your skin here, make sure to read it for more details.

#4 Don’t forget your neck and hands!

We usually clean and moisturize our face skin, but forget our neck and hands. That age too, and also get drier as we get older. So, do not forget to apply your face moisturizer on your neck too, and use a body cream for your hands.

#5 Extra Tip for Young Skin

We all hate wrinkles; women’s worst nightmare. Some women try creams, botox, face lifting, surgery, etc. to maintain their beauty. But WHY! What if I tell you that you can use simple homemade beauty tips instead?

Cut a green seedless grape in half, and gently crush it onto your face and neck area. Leave it on for 20 minutes then rinse off and pat dry. Repeat this every day. Green seedless grapes have the same ingredients that wrinkle creams have, but more natural and much cheaper!

Finally, always remember that the more beautiful you are on the inside, the prettier you will be on the outside.

    • Hi Marissa,
You got to try it! Baking soda and salt can be irritating for sensitive skin, while olive oil and sugar are gentler on your skin.
